Peter is such a trooper! He cried a lot when they gave him his shots today but as soon as I picked him up he quieted down. I don’t blame him – shots hurt!
He got rewarded with a trip to Target afterward (he loves to ride in the basket and look at all the people) and lots of playtime with Mommy and Daddy. I also gave him some teddy grahams which prompted Mike to question why he got cookies for dinner. Come on Daddy, he’s had a rough day!
The checkup went well as usual and the doctor said he’s at or ahead of the developmental markers so that’s good. He seems to think Peter’s cough was a result of allergies with the weather change, especially since it’s been mostly gone the past couple of days. Nothing to worry about
Peter can eat anything now that’s not a choking hazard, including peanuts and other “allergens” since we have no history of food allergies in our family. He’s down to nursing two times a day now and I was worried that he might need to be drinking cow’s milk now but the doctor said nursing is better and to keep that up as long as we want (I’m thinking 18 months) – cow’s milk isn’t necessary, especially for a boy as healthy as Peter.
And boy is he healthy! A full 24lbs 6 oz and 31.25 inches! He’s in the 70% in weight and 87% in height – a big boy! But his BMI is still only 17.5 so he’s not overweight at all, in fact the doctor said he’s growing at an even, steady weight. He’s assured me at every visit that Peter is just “bigger” but that’s a good thing!
Peter does a weird sort of “growl” now when he finds something funny!

Peter had his first birthday party today! Grandma and Grandpa Johnson and Grandpa Graesser were there, along with Mommy and Daddy.
Peter got to open presents then had hamburgers and hotdogs with the family. He loved all of his presents but his favorite seemed to be the cop car. He loves pushing the buttons and making the siren go!
We all changed into our swim suits and headed out the pool after that then came back inside for whale-shaped cake for the adults and a small starfish cake for Peter. He loved making such a mess with it!
We had a great time and loved getting to see family this weekend. Check out all of the photos at the album.
What a mess

We’ve had such a busy past few weeks! As most of you know Mike’s Mom passed away recently and we’ve been back and forth from Houston to see her in the hospital and then for the funeral.
While it was a sad time it was wonderful to get to see family and Peter had lots of fun with his cousins. There are several really cute pictures of him interacting with the other kids, including a photo of Hannah and Ellie feeding him and a photo of Peter and Katelyn sharing his blankey while in their car seats. Go check all of those out at the album and check out photos of the whole family here
Peter’s walking much better now and can even stand up from a sitting position without holding onto anything. He’s getting his 5th tooth in and can eat pretty much anything – and does! A LOT!
He continues to love music and dances and claps when we sing or play music for him. He’s started bringing books over to us to read to him and wants them read over and over.
We’ve been spending a lot of time in the pool lately and Peter has discovered the planes that fly overhead. He points when he sees one and watches it until he can’t see it anymore. So cute!
He’s nursing twice a day now and still takes two naps. It’s usually pretty easy to get him to go to sleep and it’s rare that he cries more than a minute or two when we set him down.
Overall he’s a pretty laid back kid but today we experienced his first temper tantrum. He got mad at lunch because we wouldn’t give him any more cheese and wanted him to eat what he already had on his tray. He started howling and thrashing around so we took him out of his highchair and let him freak out on the ground for a while.
It took everything we had not to burst out laughing at how silly he looked writhing around angrily on the floor! He calmed down after a few minutes and started sniffling. We both snuggled him for a good long while until he was happy again – but he never did get his cheese! Hopefully he’ll learn his lesson fast that tantrums don’t get him what he wants.
We think he’s cutting his large top tooth right now so that explains his crankiness. He was fine after that when he went outside to “help” Daddy build a new deck on the side of the house. There are several cute photos of that too, including the one below.
